New Jersey gains more than 30,000 jobs, largest monthly spike in years (Star Ledger)


January 17, 2013 – New Jersey gained 30,200 jobs in December, the largest monthly spike since officials began to keep track in 1990, the state Labor Department announced today. The state unemployment rate was 9.6 percent at the end of December, dropping one-tenth of a percentage point after November’s rate was revised upward to 9.7 percent. “With December marking the single greatest job gain since 1990, we’re seeing the state begin to recover from the blow delivered by Sandy,” said Charles Steindel, chief economist at the state Treasury Department.
