January 12, 2013 – Thomas Edison State College is partnering with the city to acquire and develop one of Trenton’s more iconic eyesores — the former Glen Cairn Arms apartment complex at the corner of West State and Calhoun streets. Crumbling and covered in vines, the apartment complex will be torn down to make way for a 27,000-square-foot, $16.7 million nursing building for Thomas Edison. TESC, which caters to adults returning to school and to online students, badly needs to expand its physical campus as its 21,000-student base continues to grow. The proposal hinges on a $750 million higher education bond issue approved by voters last November.
