January 11, 2013 – Gov. Rick Snyder appeared to dial back tensions Thursday between Detroit officials and his administration over the city’s slow attempts to reverse its financial decline. Snyder’s office said he asked the financial review team that he put in place to scour Detroit’s books — the second such examination in less than a year and a step that could lead to a state takeover of its largest city — to reassess the city’s condition in light of major steps Mayor Dave Bing and the City Council approved this week. Snyder also said he asked the review team to take a deeper look at the city’s long-term debts, said to exceed $13 billion. The additional mandates for the review team mean it will take longer for the panel to finish its work, so a final report won’t be presented to Snyder this week.
