Detroit’s Cobo Center $299M renovation on target (Detroit News)

January 9, 2013 – It’s a New Year and a new look for Cobo Center as construction continues on a $299 million expansion and facelift to the 52-year-old convention hall that will welcome hundreds of thousands to the Detroit auto show in the next two weeks. Experts agree that the center was long overdue for a major overhaul after years of complaints about roof leaks, heating problems, lack of exhibition space, limited Wi-Fi access and a dated look that was causing the city to lose convention business. “The building was worn out because of budget limitations and at least 10 years of deferred maintenance,” said Thom Connors, vice president and general manager of Cobo Center.
