Detroit workers dread more pay cuts from City Council (Detroit Free Press)

January 8, 2013 – As the Detroit City Council today prepares to take up another round of cuts to pay and benefits for some city workers, those who have already endured hits say they don’t know how much more they can take. Mayor Dave Bing also is calling for a one-year pension freeze for workers in the city’s General Retirement System as well as furloughs and health care cuts for nonunion members of the legislative and executive branches of the city government. Bing also is asking for a 70-30 health care plan and furloughs equivalent to up to 20% cuts in pay through the end of 2013 for nonunion executive and legislative staffers.
