December 26, 2012 – This month, the Michigan Department of Education released the latest list of the state’s school districts and charter schools operating at a deficit. For many, declining enrollment is a large factor in their financial struggles. Here are the 22 districts and charters in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties that are on the list, along with the amount of their deficit. There are nearly 50 in Michigan.
Detroit Public Schools: $72,003,336
East Detroit Public Schools: $7,545,877
Pontiac School District: $26,039,753
