December 21, 2012 – New York state, the city of Rochester and Eastman Kodak Co. are continuing to work on a plan to preserve and upgrade the Eastman Business Park power plant that economic development experts say is key to the park’s future. But Mayor Thomas Richards said Thursday that a next-generation power plant should no longer burn polluting, out-of-favor coal to generate electricity. “I believe that any solution needs to move the power generation away from coal. I believe that there is general agreement on this direction,” Richards said, referring to the other parties involved in discussions about the plant. The plant, near the intersection of Ridgeway Avenue and Mt. Read Boulevard, provides inexpensive electricity, as well as steam and chilled water, for Kodak and for the growing number of other companies locating in the business park.
