San Diego: Redevelopment funding slashed countywide (UT-San Diego)

December 20, 2012 – The state government vetoed property tax support Wednesday for a new Chargers stadium site downtown, thousands of affordable housing units, parks and fire stations, and scores of neighborhood improvements throughout San Diego County. The state ordered $73.1 million deducted Wednesday from $160.3 million in requested redevelopment funding for the first half of 2013. Fifteen of the county’s 18 cities and the county government were affected. The actions were the latest decisions by the Department of Finance as part of the wind-down of redevelopment agencies that went out of business Feb. 1.
