Snyder appoints team to review Detroit’s finances (Detroit News)

December 18, 2012 – Gov. Rick Snyder on Tuesday empanelled a six-member review team to take a deeper dive into Detroit’s precarious finances as Lansing considers placing the city under an emergency financial manager. The move comes just days after Snyder’s administration declared Detroit has a “serious financial problem” that might merit intervention. The statement came from its second review of the city’s finances in more than a year. “My administration has worked, and will continue to work in collaboration, with Mayor (Dave) Bing and city officials to ensure a revitalized and successful Detroit,” Snyder said in a statement. “However, given the financial crisis that continues to grip the city of Detroit, we must move quickly to ensure city residents have continued access to essential services they expect and deserve.”
