December 18, 2012 – It’s hard to be optimistic about the Salton Sea. There have been so many meetings, so many studies and so little progress over the years, we resist getting too excited over a visit by dignitaries.But the rhetoric last week was more promising than what we’ve heard in some time. After all, the visitors included U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and a U.S. senator who has been in Congress for 30 years. Not only is Barbara Boxer a powerful Democrat, she lives in Rancho Mirage and is aware of the looming environmental disaster of California’s largest lake. And Congressman-elect Raul Ruiz brings a fresh outlook to the problem.
