N.J. solar market struggling from oversaturation (South Jersey Times)

December 18, 2012 – Just a year ago solar energy was one of the fastest growing industries in New Jersey. Municipalities, school districts and homeowners were jumping on the prospect of minimizing their carbon footprint while saving money and they were quick to install costly solar panel systems. But recently, due to an overabundance of them flooding the market, the price of solar energy credits, or SRECs, have dwindled by nearly 92 percent in the past year and a half. Energy companies are required to purchase SRECs from solar energy systems, making solar arrays a revenue generator for their owners.
