Medicaid expansion is huge issue in Florida (Orlando Sentinel)

December 17, 2012 – Some of the state’s poorest individuals, who today aren’t considered poor enough under the state’s current Medicaid system, would be eligible to receive health care — and the federal government would give Florida billions of dollars to pay for it — if Gov. Rick Scott and the Legislature agree on a plan from the White House this spring. “There are a million workers in Florida who could benefit,” said Laura Goodhue, executive director of Florida Chain, a grass-roots health-care advocacy group out of South Florida, about provisions in the Affordable Care Act to expand Medicaid coverage in 2014.
