November 27, 2012 – A resolution to place before voters an extension of the 8 percent utility-users tax failed Tuesday night as it didn’t gain the unanimous approval necessary under state law. The council voted 4-1 to have residents on March 5 to either extend the long-standing tax or reject it, with a majority saying critical city services will be impacted if it is not extended. However, the council later after a closed session announced that the issue would be brought back at a meeting next Monday. Councilwoman Deborah Robertson voted no in the initial vote Tuesday. Robertson questioned whether other solutions to the city’s budget problems had been considered.
